When you visit the iTunes Store now, you will notice a few new banner ads and movie posters that say “New Release Movie.” That means that its a movie that has been released on iTunes at the same time of its DVD release. Most of them are starting at $14.99.
This is more amazing news than you think. In simple terms, iTunes is no longer a bad place to get your movies. Well, maybe. $14.99 is pretty tough even for a DVD release movie. BUT these aren’t rentals. They are to buy the movie. So i guess we can let Apple win this time!
New movies on the store include Cloverfield, There Will Be Blood, Alvin And The Chipmunks, I Am Legend, One Missed Call, Walk Hard – The Dewey Cox Story, and MORE! This is an awesome move by Apple no matter which way you look at it. More movies on iTunes. Sounds good to me!
“Starting today, movie fans can purchase new releases from major film studios and premier independent studios on the iTunes Store on the same day as their DVD release. New releases and catalog titles will be available from 20th Century Fox, The Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Lionsgate, Image Entertainment and First Look Studios.” Stolen from Apple’s ‘Hot News‘ PR excerpt.
